Name, actually?
A Domain Name is
the Address or URL of a Particular Website. By looking at your Address Bar in your
Browser, you will find the domain name of the website you are visiting. For
example: make-a-website-now.com
In fact, the first
step of creating a website is choosing a unique domain name. A website without a
Domain Name is like a Home without any Adress. If you want to have a
successful website, you should have a Good Domain Name.
What is a Good
Domain Name?
It is probably the
most common question in registering a domain name. Before you take any action,
try reading these features, which I think, it is highly recommended to learn.

Relative to the Website and its purpose
The domain name
should be something related to the website. It can be the title or the name of
the site or something related to the content and purpose of the website. For
example, the name: make-a-website-now.com should be connected to a website about
creating web page, not playing video games!!!
Easy
to Read and Memorize
It is very
important for your site success that the people can remember your domain name
easily. They will come back many times to your site or recommend it to the
others simply.
There are some
useful tips helping you choose a domain name, which is easy to read and
memorize. To name a few, check out the following points:
It should be easy to distinguish the
words in a domain name. Sometimes, I personally prefer to have hyphenated
name instead of non-hyphenated. Just tell me which is easier to read:
make-a-website-now.com or makeawebsitenow.com. Besides, search engines can
sometimes
find the domain name better. But, as search engines guidelines are changing
all the time, I cannot exactly recommend it. In addition, this situation depends on the
availability of the domain name. On the other hand, it can be long,
difficult to write and easy to forget.
Meaningful according to its Extention
What does it mean?
A domain name (example.com) consists of two main parts: the name (example) and its
extension (.com). You should notice to the extension of the domain name, when you
are going to register it. If you intend to maintain an educational website, for
instance, it does not make sense to register a domain name with .biz extension!
Although, there is no obligation, it is fairly better to select a domain
extension related to the purpose of the site.
The most popular extensions are.com, .net, .org, I suppose. But if you are going
to create a website working for a local community, it sounds good to register a
domain with country-specific extension such as .ca, .se, etc.
Unique
Of course, it
should be!!! You have to select a domain name which has not been
registered yet, nor is a trademark or a copyrighted brandname and I do not think
it is easy.
Perhaps your desired name has already taken by someone else. Sometimes, it works
well to buy an occupied domain, but I think it will cost you very much. So,
there is really no need to hurry. Spend a bit more time and select a unique domain
name in peace and quiet.
